‘Mebike Festival’ inspires more than 100 artists.

I organised a whole Mebike Festival Week with my partner Abner Preis in 2007. The event involved different locations throughout the city of Amsterdam: the Carhartt Store, Westergasfabriek and a secret party location. We invited more than 100 European streetart and graffiti artists, as well as bike designers to show their skills on empty walls and some Carhartt bikes. We covered more than 500sqm of space and painted as many sqm of walls by artists like The London Police [UK], Will Barras [UK], Morcky [IT], Flying Fortress [GER], Lil’Shy [FR], mymo [GER], Tina Villa [KRO] and Miss Van [FR]. The sponsored Carhartt bikes were morphed into extra-ordinary vehicles by artists and collectives such as Whystyle [IT], Claudia Tattoo [GER], Zedz [NL], Amok [NL], Lordh [IT], Hanazuki [NL], Laser 3.14 [NL] and Galo [IT], just to name a few. The event ended with an open air cinema at the Kriterion in Amsterdam, where we showed films such as Les Triplettes de Belleville and the independent film B.I.K.E. about the New York tall bike subculture world.

Mebike – The Dream Bike Project is a green initiative that I have developed, co-curated, planned, produced with my friend and US artist Abner Preis. It is a project that started in 2005 and had till now more than 300 artists involved over the last years. The idea is based on a Simpson’s episode, where Homer’s brother wants Homer to create his fantastic dream car. So, Homer develops a car named The Homer which had everything he thought should go into a car, including: a toaster, bathroom with a 360 degree view, beer keg, some TV’s and a small swimming pool. In Amsterdam style, we turned the question into: How do artists with different roots and backgrounds dream about their dream bike? Since years we explore this through 3D works, installations, motion graphics, paintings, poems, graffiti, music and much more from contemporary international artist.
