The Monster of Nix is an animated short film by Dutch director and graphic novelist Rosto. Since 2009 I have worked as the line producer for the international production of the film and as in-house producer for Studio Rosto A.D in Amsterdam. As the main producer we financed the film with our co-producers Autour de Minuit [FR] and CinéTé [BE] in association with French broadcaster Canal+ and Dutch broadcaster AVRO. It was additionally supported amongst others by governmental funding parties as the Dutch Filmfonds [NL], the Mediafonds [NL], French Procirep [FR], CNC [FR] and the Vlanders Audivisual Fund [BE].
Together with the Executive Director I took part in all work processes from the beginning of the project and set up all contracts with the involved parties. After the film got green-lighted, we chose the international production teams for live shooting and for post-production work and the pipeline between the countries. The crew consisted of character designers, animators, riggers, matte painters, VFX and fluid specialists, compositors and many more international top-notch artists in their field. Furthermore we worked with great voice casts as Tom Waits, Terry Gilliam, French indie band The Dø and famous San Francisco eyeball rockers The Residents. The original sound score was recorded by the Dutch Metropole Orkest. The sound design and Dolby 5.1 mix were done and mastered in Minneapolis at Undertone Music. We had about 200 people working on this film and we put more than 30 man-years in total into this project. The film ia now the official Dutch submission to the Academy Awards 2012.
